Off the coast of Arcadia, a large continental landmass, is a comparatively small island. This island is the birthplace of a species known as "Daemons", half animal, half human hybrids that carry the ability to wield abilities that can manipulate elements, laws of nature, and even the perceptions of others, along with a reincarnation cycle unique to themselves. Many years ago, Arcadia invaded this landmass and made it a part of its governance.
Living in a small village with her adoptive human family, Her life has been a simple one. Until one eventful trip to the local port with her brother drops her into a plot spanning lifetimes far beyond her own. As she learns more about the island she lives in, the beings that inhabit it, and the truth of her past life, Aurora will come to terms with many truths about what it means to grow, and how to cut the ties of expectation from those who insist they know better.
The protagonist, a red panda Daemon with the ability to freeze water and control ice. Living in a village of Arcadian refugees for most of her life, Aurora has only a rudimentary understanding of the intense politics that surround her race and the two islands. She's a kind and naive girl, though she can be a bit impulsive and a troublemaker when it'd be fun. She lives with her adoptive mom and dad, along with their biological son and her brother, Lucas. She tends to fight using brute force, despite her smaller frame and weaker constitution.

A mysterious fox woman who Aurora and Lucas meet while on the run. Claiming to be a divine spirit of a long abandoned shrine hosting a large fox population, Branch tends to be a bit of an attention hog, and carries a regal air that quickly falls apart when someone tries to challenge it. Her childish nature is betrayed by the boundless wisdom she seems to carry about the world at large. In truth, she is actually a Spirit, a being closely linked to Daemonkind, with a tighter connection to the spiritual plane that Daemons draw their power from. She can command flames that are capable of both burning and healing the body, leaving it numb and comfortable in both cases. in addition, she can form these flames into unique shapes such as claws, or little fox familiars. She joins Aurora and Lucas on their adventure, and provides them with historical context as needed.

A rabbit Daemon who can create pockets of gravity (or lack thereof). Aurora and the group meet her and her partner Rhine on their first stop after adding Branch to their party. She wields a weapon, a large wooden hammer that she can channel her ability through. She works for a traveling circus that stops in the same town that the party does. Despite her goth adjacent appearance, she's actually quite chipper, and is often equated to that of a big sister to those she percieves as younger than her. She takes a strong liking to the party, and helps them out quite readily.

Another rabbit Daemon who can manipulate loose stone. Aurora and the group meet her at the same time as Vitae. She wields a large naginata, capable of cutting the stone she can manipulate. Working for the same circus as Vitae, Rhine is much less outwardly positive, giving off a serious and professional impression to people. Always seemingly frustrated with Vitae's personality, the truth is that they simply can't get enough of each other. They've been together for most of their lives, and consider themselves lifelong partners, after a pact made in their previous lives carried through to their current one.

The antagonist of this story, an older woman by the name of Férie. A Daemon of an unknown animal and known by the public as the Ferrous Witch, the leader of the Daemonic Independence Group. Ferie's group seeks to liberate the island from Arcadia's annexation through force. Often by stoking the flames of hatred between Humans and Daemons and encouraging the latter to fight back. Utilizing a technique known as "Consolidation", Férie wields the tails of fallen D.I.G. members, using their abilities as if they were her own, preventing them from entering the cycle of reincarnation while they're attached to her body. She seems to hold a connection to Aurora's previous life, as when she learns of a red panda Daemon with ice powers running through the city, she starts on a major operation to chase her down and capture her alive.
